Policy makers keep ignoring the facts on how America ended up in current financial crisis and how to save the nation from future bankruptcy.
Banking system failure is only one side of the issue, but the real reason is an unproductive economy.
As the corporation in America mature, they became more and more wasteful, lazy and unproductive and without new business startups, other countries took over the gap and American economy became a consumer and service based economy.
While trillions of dollars of tax payer money was spent to rescue big and unproductive corporations that led us into these crisis, not even 1% pf that amount was spent to help small businesses and help the individuals with innovative business ideas.
I think the US government should provide business grants and low interest loans to help individuals with business ideas or businesses in need of financing for expansion regardless of their credit for the following reasons:
1) Even if 5% of such businesses survive and evolve into successful and productive businesses that produce jobs and tax revenue and 10% of such businesses eventually evolve into profitable large businesses, the return will be a lot more beneficial for the economy in long term, than helping a large corporation with billions of dollars in tax payer taking a chance that they may fail again
2) By making sure that the assistance will be used for business only. you'll guarantee to create jobs immediately as a result of the assistance. While the entrepreneurs themselves will become employed, but also as a result many of them hire other individuals.
3) Not only we create employment for the entrepreneurs, but also such businesses will need to use that money to buy/rent real estate, equipment, hire employees, buy services, etc which the government eventually collect sales taxes from them and generate revenue and business activity in over all economy in long term. At the end, the government has nothing to lose even if in worst case scenario, an individual decide to spend the money for personal pleasure, because it'll generate revenue for other businesses and in the end turn into tax revenue for the government.
Also we should encourage and assist businesses to expand overseas. Many of the emerging countries today may become top economies in the future and we don't want others to take advantage of the future. Chinese are doing a very good job in predicting the hot spots and we should do the same.
Also to balance our debt to China and India and also save the third world countries from starvation, instead of wiring assistance money into their corrupt leaders pockets, we should instead encourage and assist businesses to use places like Africa, Afghanistan, Haiti, Thailand, etc with very cheap labor and resources as and alternative to Chinese and Indian workforce, since most of our national debt and deficit comes from using China and India as the main sources of cheap labor while the Chinese themselves are already using African labor as a cheaper alternative to their own labor.
Also China and India have become dominant in controlling raw and natural commodities in the world and take advantage of below market black market resources by making under the table deals of corrupt governments such as Islamic Republic of Iran, Sudan, Nigeria and so on, then use the same raw material to produce goods anything from metals, chemical/petrochemicals, machinery, plastics, textiles, furniture and so on in their homeland or in cheap labor countries and sell use for huge profit. We should adapt the same strategy if we don't want to fall behind China and other countries in fast changing world.
For example, it's a shame that after we spent trillions of dollars over Iraq and Afghanistan wars, almost all oil & natural gas contracts in Iraq and mineral contracts in Afghanistan were awarded to China and other countries for very cheap prices while American companies were absent from the deals.
Commodities are essential in economy and we still have a chance to take control of commodities market.
China has shortage of land and water to produce food for its growing middle class, they are also investing heavily in farming in Africa, S.America and Asia where there is vast land and water available for commercial farming. We should not allow China to take control of its food source, so it'll act more responsible and cooperate in international issues.
America alone has enough land and water and advanced farming technology to produce food at such low cost that the Chinese can not afford to don't buy and depend on use as their food suppliers.
Also in energy sector, we should stop producing ethanol from the grains that could be used as food source or animal feed and instead invest in bio-gas, ethanol from waste, garbage and sewage, geo-thermal, clean nuclear tach and shift or fuel from hydrocarbon base to renewable electric base.
Investment& developments in high tech robotics, automated industrial equipments, metallurgy, plastics, electronics, etc are very important and we should motivate students to study industrial and tech majors instead of unproductive careers.
The next time I will post several recession proof business ideas for people looking to start a business..
God Bless America
